ABB showcases innovations at Solar Power International 2017

News

ABB is unveiling new solar power conversion and energy storage devices and solutions at this year's Solar Power International event.

The innovations are part of the ABB Ability digital portfolio of connected and software-enabled solutions that enable customers to know more, do more and do better. "We are committed to continual investment and innovation in this sector, leveraging the strong digital capabilities from across our business as part of ABB Ability, to develop market-leading PV solutions and product platforms," said Mike Stavish, head of ABB's US solar inverter business. "We are very proud to showcase these to the solar community at SPI. We look forward to meeting with our customers to show how our investments will support their own business growth."

New solutions being showcased at SPI in the ABB booth (#4121) include:

New Residential Inverter (1.2-6 .0kW) UNO DM Plus: This inverter is not just smart...it is intelligent. ABB's new single-phase inverter family, the UNO DM Plus series represents the optimal solution for residential PV installations. It is future-proof and flexible, with a compact design for power ratings from 1.2 to 6.0kW, enabling integration with current and future devices for smart building automation. This presence of Plug and Play connectors and an easy commissioning routine enables simple, fast and cost effective installation without needing to open the inverter cover, while the built-in user interface enables access to features such as advanced inverter configuration settings, dynamic feed-in control and load manager.

New String Inverter (up to 60 kW) TRIO TM: Joining the new string inverter will be ABB's latest addition to the TRIO family, the TRIO TM. This three, MPPT version features power ratings up to 60kW and has been designed with enhanced flexibility in mind to maximize the ROI in large systems. Easy and fast commissioning is guaranteed with an embedded web user interface through any WLAN device. Furthermore, a Sunspec compliant Modbus protocol enables easy integration with third party monitoring and control systems.

New Inverter for Commercial and Industrial Applications (120 kW) PVS120: Get a sneak peek at the new commercial inverter on the block. ABB's 120kW string inverter featuring multi-MPPT solutions for maximum plant design flexibility. The inverter will be available in 2018, with a power and voltage range extension to 1500Vdc. The inverter has been designed for large scale commercial and industrial PV installations, as well as for ground mounted projects. Featuring high energy harvesting and advanced cooling credentials. It requires minimal onsite interventions, reducing operating costs as it has access to the Internet of Things via IP based communication, scalable cloud architecture and easy wireless commissioning via tablet/mobile device. The inverter has been widely tested and demonstrated outstanding performance reliability.

Utility scale central inverter, extended power range up to 2300 kVA For utility-scale power generation and on display is the 1500Vdc PVS980 central inverter. Now available with an extended power range up to 2300kVA, the PVS980 central inverter is optimized for cost-effective, multi-megawatt PV power plants. Featuring an innovative, low-maintenance cooling solution designed for demanding applications and harsh environments. The PVS980 reduces maintenance costs while ensuring outstanding endurance and reliability. It also features a compact and modular design suitable for outdoor use and comes with a complete range of industrial data communication options, including remote control monitoring. The inverter is complemented with a compact Plug and Play solution, PVS980-MWS megawatt station, which is rated up to 4600kVA.

Energy storage solution for solar, expanded offering As a turnkey supplier of battery energy storage systems and stand-alone power conversion systems, ABB has expanded its EssPro(TM) Energy Storage portfolio to include more compact and modular battery energy storage systems as well as a new power conversion system platform. Pairing ABB's EssPro Grid Battery Energy Storage system with solar can optimize the performance of the solar plant by providing instant power and ramping support during cloud coverage and load shifting services as the evening approaches.

800VAC/1000VAC Component Solutions ABB announces a full line of 800VAC/1000VAC components. With the increased use of string inverters for utility scale solar plants, higher AC voltages yield increased efficiency and reduced cost.

ABB now offers a full line of components rated 800VAC to 1000VAC including: molded case circuit breakers, air circuit breakers, miniature circuit breakers, fused and non-fused disconnect switches and fuse gear. Each of these products are backed with a comprehensive package of communication, monitoring, control and service solutions, designed to maximize solar power profits and support across the product's entire life cycle. "All of our products have been designed to the highest ABB quality standards and with more than 25 years of sector experience," said Rob Weber, Vice President of ABB's US Solar Sales and Marketing. "We welcome the opportunity to meet customers to discuss how ABB can enable the integration of solar into smart grids and buildings, driving progress and successfully providing greener, smarter energy for all."
