BYD announces compatibility of Battery-Box Premium with SMA’s Sunny Boy Storage line

News

BYD Co. Ltd., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of rechargeable batteries, announces the compatibility of the energy storage system Battery-Box Premium HVM with the Sunny Boy Storage models 3.7 / 5.0 / 6.0 by SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA). The combination of the latest generation modular high-voltage energy storage system by BYD and the SMA storage inverter line is available in Europe and the APAC region from today. The system combination of Sunny Boy Storage with the Battery-Box Premium model HVS will follow shortly. The compatibility of the new low-volt storage system line Battery-Box Premium LVL with SMA’s Sunny Island inverter line has already been met with a high interest since its availability earlier this summer, as it offers customers an even more versatile and powerful solution – especially for off-grid projects.

“BYD and SMA look back on a long and successful partnership. The combination of BYD’s highly efficient modular energy storage system with our popular and most flexible inverter series Sunny Boy Storage and Sunny Island have been one of the most sought after solution combinations in the market”, said Aleksandra Saša Bukvić-Schäfer, Head of Business Development & Partner Management at SMA. “Therefore, we are very glad to announce the compatibility with the sought-after latest generation of the Battery-Box Premium lines.”

“SMA is one of our longest-standing partners for the Battery-Box line”, said Julia Chen, Global Director BYD Battery-Box. “We have successfully worked together since the first system generation was launched at EES and Intersolar Europe in 2015 and we value SMA’s technological expertise, market knowledge and the shared vision of providing customers around the globe with highly efficient systems for renewable energy and efficient energy storage.”

SMA provides inverters for the full Battery-Box Premium range with enhanced capabilities to support both high-voltage and low-voltage applications for on- and off-grid projects.

BYD Battery-Box Premium and compatible SMA inverters

The latest system generation of BYD's Battery-Box Premium adds additional functionality to the modular lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) storage system and meets the toughest industry standards.

The systems are even more flexible and scalable, covering an even wider range of application scenarios. All models are capable of high-powered emergency-backup and feature both on- and off-grid functionality. The systems also feature the patented modular plug design and do not require any internal wiring, thus allowing maximum flexibility and ease of use. Combined with the improved design and locking mechanism this makes installation even easier and shortens installation time.

Each Battery-Box Premium HVM system is composed of 3 to 8 HVM battery modules with 2.76kWh each that are connected in series to achieve a usable capacity of 8.3 to 22.1kWh. A connection of up to three identical Battery-Box Premium HVM allows a maximum capacity of 66.2 kWh.

The system is compatible with SMA’s Sunny Boy Storage models 3.7 / 5.0 / 6.0 with integrated secure power supply and the optional backup solution

Each Battery-Box Premium HVS system is composed of 2 to 5 HVS battery modules that are connected in series to achieve a usable capacity of 5.1 to 12.8 kWh. A connection of up to three identical Battery-Box Premium HVS allows a maximum capacity of 38.4 kWh.
The system will be compatible with SMA’s Sunny Boy Storage models 2.5 / 3.7 / 5.0 / 6.0, soon.

The new low-voltage line Battery-Box Premium LVL is scalable from 15.4 to 983 kWh and capable of high-powered back-up and off-grid functions, ideally suited for both residential and commercial applications.

The system is compatible with SMA’s Sunny Island models SI4.4M / 6.0H / 8.0H

“While the system combination can be used for both on- and off-grid installations, Sunny Island has a particular strong reputation as one of the most powerful off-grid inverters. The combination with the low-voltage line of BYD’s Battery-Box systems has been extremely successful in the past”, said Julia Chen. “With the new added capabilities of the Battery-Box Premium models LVL and LVS, BYD and SMA can continue their success in the off-grid market sector and offer customers an even more versatile and powerful solution for the efficient and reliable storage of renewable energy.”
