First 210mm n-type series monocrystalline ingot rolls off production line at Trina Solar zero-carbon park in Qinghai

News

Trina Solar, a PV and smart energy solution provider, has announced the successful production of the first 210mm n-type series monocrystalline ingot at its Qinghai factory in northwestern China. The milestone marks significant progress for the factory, which aims to be the first zero-carbon park in Qinghai.

Weighing 542kg and measuring 3800mm long, the 210mm n-type monocrystalline ingot is world leading in terms of production technology, quality, and scale.

Construction of the 20GW Qinghai ingot production facility began in July 2022. In February 2023 the first monocrystalline furnace was ignited for calcination and officially commissioned, before the first monocrystalline ingot rolled off the production line in mid-February.

Helena Li, President of Global Solar Product Business Group at Trina Solar said: “This is a significant moment for Trina Solar, and in particular, it is a huge milestone at our Qinghai factory. To begin a project of this scale and see results in just eight months demonstrates how effective and efficient our operations are.

"Innovation and sustainability are at the heart of what we do, so it’s fantastic to see progress not only in our world leading technology but leaps forward in environmentally friendly practices. We’re looking forward to continuing this success while we embark on our mission to establish the first zero-carbon park in Qinghai.”

Trina Solar’s 210mm n-type monocrystalline ingots are used to ensure the production capacity and quality of n-type modules. As the Qinghai factory covers almost the entire PV manufacturing chain, it will become one of the company’s main sites for ensuring the supply of primary materials for 210mm n-type modules to create greater value for customers. Maintaining high standards and rigorous requirements in manufacturing, the air purity in the monocrystalline silicon workshop and in materials preparation areas is well above industry specifications.

Renewable energy accounts for 90% of energy resources in Qinghai, which will enable Trina Solar to manufacture solar products using mostly green energy. With the addition of a smart grid and the use of green electricity transaction, the company will establish the first zero-carbon industrial park in Qinghai.

Recent module innovations that are based on n-type i-TOPCon cells include the new Vertex n-type modules of 605W and 695W which can be used in a wide range of complex and demanding environments, including mountainous terrain, water surfaces and desert. This will further Trina Solar’s mission to deliver solar energy for all.
