EREN Renewable Energy and 3G Energy team up to develop renewable projects in Canada
EREN Renewable Energy and 3G Energy, have combined their skills to accelerate renewable energy development in emerging segments of the Canadian market.
3G Energy and EREN RE aim at developing utility scale wind and solar projects in all Canadian provinces and territories through a combination of greenfield development and acquisitions.
Based in Ottawa, 3G Energy has a history of developing solar and wind projects in Canada. 3G has an understanding of local markets, as well as strong connections with local communities. EREN RE brings its funding capacity (which was further strengthened by the successful fundraising of 200M€ in October 2015), in-house technical expertise, plus extensive global experience in renewable energy development, ownership, and operations.
Commenting on this strategic partnership, Fabienne Demol, Head of Business Development of EREN RE said: "Renewable energy in Canada has experienced a steady growth over the last 10 years and we expect many provinces to be moving the renewables agenda forward as costs continue to drop. EREN RE is pleased to enter the Canadian market and to partner with such an experienced developer as 3G Energy. There are huge opportunities for successful investments in Canada, and for collaboration with aboriginal communities or with large industrial energy consumers alike."
Graham Findlay, President of 3G Energy, added: "We are glad to team up with such a successful partner in our industry. We are creating synergy through combining EREN RE's impressive experience with new markets and technology opportunities, such as renewable energy for mining companies, with our local presence and knowledge of the Canadian market. We now have a solid platform to work from and add to the installed base of renewable energy projects in Canada."
Based on his prior experience with major wind and solar developers in Canada, Rob Miller, who recently joined 3G as Vice President, commented on EREN RE's and 3G's partnership: "I believe there is significant potential for growth in the Canadian renewable market as provincial governments are more and more willing to replace fossil and nuclear generation with renewable options. In the next few years, we intend to develop wind and solar projects where they prove to be competitive alternatives, combined with storage technologies and through industrial net-metering opportunities. In doing so, we will leverage our valuable experience expertise working with First Nations as partners and co-proponents to ensure local acceptance and maximize local benefits."
