Sonnedix Japan starts construction of Sonnedix Motegi solar PV plant

News

Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix Group of companies (Sonnedix Group), has issued Notice-To-Proceed for a 16.4MW solar PV plant in the Tochigi prefecture.

The project, acquired by Sonnedix Japan in December 2021 from Trina Solar Japan Energy, will consist of 540Wp monocrystalline bifacial modules and 3.2MW central inverters.

The solar plant is expected to reach commercial operation by Q3 of 2023. Once completed, Sonnedix Motegi will produce 22,230MWh of clean energy during its first full year of operation. This is the equivalent of powering more than 5,000 households, avoiding the emission of almost 11,000 metric tons of CO2 per year. The electricity generated by the solar plant will be sold through an 18-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

“We’re excited to see another project underway, further adding to our platform in Japan where we have been present since 2013 through our trusted partner, Sonnedix Japan”, said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix. “It is another step forward in expanding the use of solar, in the Japanese market and around the world, as we deliver on our commitment to pushing forward the energy transition.”

Sonnedix currently has a total capacity of over 5GW, of which Sonnedix Japan currently manages almost 500MW. The company expects to complete the construction of 82MW within 2022.
