Worlds Largest Solar Project Considered By Clinton Foundation
The United States based foundation plans to create the largest ever integrated solar city project in India worth approximately US$ 4.7 billion.
The Gujarat government and the Clinton Foundation are in talks to set up an integrated solar city with a capacity to generate 5GW. This is believed to be the largest project of its kind so far in a single location.
The integrated solar city is meant to produce everything by itself, including glass, panels and raw material, which reduce production cost considerably. The project is also seen as one of the largest foreign direct investments into the state.
Due to the scale and the advanced technology yielded by the Clinton Foundation, the cost to generate the energy is estimated to be at Rs 4 per unit. The Gujarat government is currently looking at Kutch and Banaskantha as favourable locations for the project.
According to sources, the foundation already amassed US$12 billion, supported by companies like Microsoft an GE Energy, to be utilised for green energy initiatives.
The Clinton Foundation is also talking to the governments of Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh to set up solar power projects. Other companies, including Reliance, Tata Power and Euro Solar, have also started solar projects in India.
