Big win for Ingeteam with inverter contract

News

Ingeteam has secured the supply and installation contract for Europe's largest PV project. The Mula PV plant, located in the south-east of the municipality of Mula in the region of Murcia, will have an installed power capacity of 500 MWp, which will make it the largest PV plant in Spain and in Europe as a whole.

Thanks to this new contract, by December Ingeteam will reach the figure of 2,000 MW in PV inverters supplied to the Spanish market. Added to this milestone are the 900 MW of PV power maintained by Ingeteam in Spain.

It is estimated that, by the end of 2019, the plant could be fully operational, through the access and connection point at the El Palmar substation, a strategic hub for the power transmission grid in Murcia.

Covering a surface area of almost 1,000 hectares, similar to around 2,000 football pitches, the Mula solar plant is calculated to produce more than 750 million kWh per year, providing sufficient energy to supply a city of 450.000 inhabitants. The scale of the project makes this a unique initiative for the region, positioning Murcia as a leading renewables producer at a global level.

Delivery has already started on the total of 238 central PV inverters to be supplied by Ingeteam, all with 1500 Vdc technology. Moreover, the supply is not limited to the PV inverters, but covers the complete medium voltage solution, the Inverter Station. This solution comprises all the low and medium voltage equipment required (LV/MV transformer, MV switchgear, LV switchboard and auxiliary services transformer), which is connected in the field to the PV inverters.

Apart from the supply of equipment, Ingeteam is to perform the work to unload, position and connect the 74 inverter stations, in addition to the commissioning and electromechanical installation work.

This new contract strengthens Ingeteam's position in Spain, where the company is set to close this financial year with a total of 2 GW of power supplied and reaching a figure of 900 MW of maintained power in the Spanish PV market. This figure consolidates the company's global leadership position in the provision of power plant Operation & Maintenance Services, with 12 GW.

Scope of supply

- 74 inverter stations fitted with all the necessary equipment to inject medium voltage power: PV inverters, LV/MV transformer, medium voltage switchgear, auxiliary services transformer and low voltage switchboard.

- Two hundred and thirty-eight 1500 Vdc photovoltaic inverters, each with a rated power output of 1690 kW, pertaining to the INGECON SUN PowerMax B Series family.

- Work involving the unloading, positioning, installation and connection of the PV inverters.

- Commissioning and electromechanical installation of 74 inverter stations.
