Sonnedix adds 38.7 MW of solar PV operating capacity in Japan

News

Sonnedix Oita Solar, a 38.7 MW solar PV plant, began commercial operation on Monday, 16 March 2020. This is the first large scale solar PV project fully managed through the development, financing and construction phase by Sonnedix Japan for the Sonnedix Group, bringing the operating capacity of the Sonnedix Group’s portfolio to 95 MWp in Japan – with an additional 116 MWp, expected to reach COD in 2020.

Located in the Oita prefecture, the plant is expected to produce 46,400 MWh of clean energy during its first full year of operation. This is the equivalent to powering around 15,500 households, avoiding the emission of around 22,502 metric tons CO2 per year. The electricity generated by the solar plant will be sold to Kyushu Electric, through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Axel Thiemann, Sonnedix Group CEO, said: “The beginning of the operations phase for Sonnedix Oita Solar marks a milestone for Sonnedix Japan, and the Sonnedix Group, as it consolidates our in-country-growth and expansion strategy, and positions us as one of the leading players in the Japanese solar market. Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix group of companies (the Sonnedix Group), currently manages more than 300 MW of solar PV capacity in operation or construction, exceeding 500MW of total controlled capacity.”

Sonnedix Oita Solar, built by Maetel Construction Japan, is powered by 340Wp LG ground-mounted modules, as well as 1,667kW central PV inverters manufactured by Toshiba-Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation (TMEIC).
