Abengoa Solar begins construction on two concentrating solar power plants in Écija
Abengoa Solar, after obtaining the required construction permit, has begun building two parabolic trough technology-based solar concentrating solar power (CSP) plants in the town of Écija. The two plants, each with 50 megawatts of power output capacity, will produce enough energy to meet the electricity needs of around 52,000 households and eliminate the emission of 31,400 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, thereby upholding Abengoa's commitment to sustainability and combating climate change.

Abengoa Solar will employ its own parabolic trough technology in both plants. The technology was developed in recent years and has been proven highly successful in the plants that make up the Solúcar Platform in Sanlúcar la Mayor, Seville.

Pedro Robles, chief executive officer of Abengoa Solar Spain, expressed his satisfaction with the start-up of this new project: “Three years ago we began the process involved in building these plants. After making the investment required for purchasing the necessary land and equipment, we can today affirm that Écija will enjoy two state-of-the-art plants for producing clean energy that will make use of one of the community's greatest natural resources, the sun.”

Including the two plants, Abengoa Solar now has 250 solar CSP megawatts under construction in Spain, in addition to 31 megawatts that are already in production.
