New Solar Leader For Materials Firm
Dow Corning names photovoltaic research scientist for global solar market
Dow Corning has named Donald Wood as Photovoltaic Research Scientist within its Solar Business Unit, which provides silicon-based solutions throughout the entire photovoltaic value chain. He will be based at Dow Corning's European headquarters in Belgium.
“Dow Corning continues to engage the industry's brightest minds in the research and development of innovative technologies that will increase solar module efficiency and lower manufacturing costs,” Eric Peeters, Dow Corning global solar executive director commented.. “Don's technical knowledge and experience in solar cell technology will be great resources to our team as we continue to promote solar power as a viable energy option for this generation and the next.”
Dr. Wood joins Dow Corning with a breadth of experience in semiconductor and solar cell research. Previously, he led an engineering team at Sixtron Advanced Materials and worked as a senior engineer at Filtronic Compound Semiconductors.
In his new role, Dr. Wood will research and develop new materials and processes for photovoltaic cell manufacturing. He will work in a global team of about 10 researchers and technicians at two Dow Corning sites. Mr. Wood has a doctorate degree in semiconductor physics and material science from Cranfield University and has authored 33 scientific papers.
Dow Corning Solar Solutions provides materials and services for the entire photovoltaic supply chain, from silicon feedstock for ingots and wafers production to solar module assembly materials. Its solution packages are built on high-performance silicone products such as encapsulants, adhesives, coatings, potting agents and sealants, as well as next-generation solar grade silicon.
