SANYO Opens Green Energy Park

SANYO had opened it's Kansai based Green Energy Park to further develop a holistic approach to energy
SANYO Electric is pleased to announce the completion of the "Kasai Green Energy Park", a next-generation eco-friendly plant equipped with SANYO's green technology. The park has been built to showcase SANYO's energy solutions to customers and to demonstrate efficient energy utilization. With the Kasai Green Energy Park, SANYO, a member of the Panasonic Group, will help reduce CO2 emissions all over the world, promoting ‘energy solutions for entire homes, buildings and cities'.
The goal is to use the Park as a research prototype for a holistic approach to energy creation, storage and management. Members of the global press were shown around the park prior to its official opening. The company sees the Park as a stepping stone to future energy management at the local level for industrial and large community concerns such as hospitals and schools.
A large focus is on the storage of energy and management within large buildings to maximise usage and take advantage of peak and non peak energy times.
Features of the Kasai Green Energy Park
1. Eco-friendly plant
The Kasai Green Energy Park is equipped with a variety of SANYO green technology, including a '1MW PV system' that uses HIT solar cells with the top conversion efficiency in the industry, the largest-scale 1.5MWh lithium-ion battery system for power storage, an 'Energy Management System (EMS)' that controls the energy efficient equipment in the park, as well as a 'Smart Energy System' that optimally controls all the systems. The park will reduce CO2 emissions by 2,480 tons per year with the efficient energy utilization.
2. As a testing site as well as a showroom for energy solutions
The Kasai Green Energy Park includes a PV system, power storage system and cutting-edge energy efficient equipment. In addition, the Administration Building, one of facilities of the Park, features a "DC Power Distribution System", as well as computers and LED lighting powered by DC (produced by Panasonic Electric Works). The park will contribute to the development of new products and systems as a testing site for the Panasonic Group's cutting-edge green technologies for 'energy generation', 'energy storage' and 'energy efficiency', as well as the 'Energy Management Systems' combining the technologies. The park will also be open to customers as a showroom promoting energy solutions.
3. Development of the large-scale power storage system
SANYO has developed the "Battery Management System" which controls the charge and discharge of electricity generated by the solar cells etc and stored into storage batteries. The "Battery Management System", combining a number of standard battery systems for power storage* and the "Battery Management Controller" can efficiently charge and discharge the energy, managing a number of batteries as though they are one battery. At the Kasai Green Energy Park, the "Battery Management System" makes it possible to manage the world's largest-scale power storage system, combining 310,000 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries.
