SolarWorld opens Japanese office

News

On the occasion of the PV Japan trade fair in Tokyo, the German solar power manufacturer SolarWorld AG have announced the opening of its new sales office in Japan. The office marks an expansion of the group's presence in Japan, which is a solar growth market.

The shutdown of almost all nuclear power plants, growing awareness of clean energy and the decision taken by the Japanese government to promote the generation of solar power through feed-in legislation mean that in Japan, more and more people are favoring solar power. This year, solar power systems with a capacity of 1.3 gigawatts have already been installed, with triple that amount forecast for next year.

"Japan is one of the largest growth markets for solar energy in the world," says Dr.-Ing. E. h. Frank Asbeck, CEO of SolarWorld AG. "After the catastrophe of Fukushima, people are looking for safe and sustainable prospects for energy supply. Japan was already a pioneer in photovoltaics in the 1970s, and will again play an important role in the coming years. The conditions for clean solar power couldn't be better, as a result of which the use of solar energy will increase significantly here over the next few years. Solar power also makes a decisive contribution to ensuring a reliable energy supply to the people living in the region."

The subsidiary SolarWorld Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, has been active on the growing Japanese market for over a year. The company will be supported in its sales activities at the new Tokyo office by sales partner Europe Solar Innovations Co. Ltd. (ESI).
