Sanko Real Estate Selects Solar Frontier and Chiyoda as Partners
Sanko Real Estate, Chiyoda Corporation, and Solar Frontier have announced that they will partner in a utility-scale solar power plant, "Ise Futami Megasolar Hikari no Machi," to be built in Ise City, Mie Prefecture, Japan.
Sanko Real Estate will operate the power plant, Solar Frontier will supply its CIS thin-film solar modules, and Chiyoda will construct the solar power plant. Construction will begin in December, 2012, and operations are slated to begin sometime around the spring of 2013. Sanko Real Estate selected Solar Frontier as a partner in this project because of the power generation and environmental performance of Solar Frontier's CIS thin-film solar modules, and selected Chiyoda as a partner because of its experience in the construction of megawatt-scale solar power plants.
"Hikari no Machi" (City of Light) is a large-scale residential area that is being developed by Sanko Real Estate in Futami-cho, Ise City, Mie Prefecture. The Ise Futami Megasolar power plant will be installed on 7 hectares of land adjoining an apartment complex there. The 5.2 megawatt power plant will be equipped with around 32,300 CIS thin-film solar modules from Solar Frontier and is expected to generate approximately 6,000 MWh a year.
Also, it is planned that the plant will be equipped for use by local people in times of emergency power outages with electrical outputs connected to storage cells that will be permanently charged by solar power. In addition, educational facilities for elementary and middle school students in the region will be built.
Through this project, Sanko Real Estate, Chiyoda and Solar Frontier will build infrastructure to produce clean energy and provide emergency relief as well as environmental education. The project will contribute to a sustainable society by promoting environmental initiatives starting with the widespread use of solar power generation.
