Sputnik make Latin American move

News

Sputnik Engineering, manufacturer of SolarMax inverters, has opened a new office in Chile. The Swiss company is entering the area in response to the growing importance of the photovoltaic market in this region. The branch office located in Santiago de Chile will be headed by Fernando Sánchez, who is also General Manager of the Spanish office, in collaboration with a local commercial director. To date SolarMax is already involved in several Chilean projects to be finalized this year and in 2014.

Chile has a stable legal framework, a high energy demand, especially in the North of the country, and is one of the areas of the world with the highest solar radiation. This makes the country one of the most interesting PV markets worldwide. The expansion of photovoltaics is supported by the government, which works to foster the use of renewable energies, establishing a target of 10 per cent for 2024. According to the latest report published by the Chilean Centro de Energías Renovables (Centre for Renewable Energies), which is linked to the Ministry for Energy, a total of 167MW capacity generated out of renewable technologies have already been installed in Chile in 2012. This makes 2012 the year in which the most renewable energy was installed and connected to the grid.

For Fernando Sánchez, the entry into the Andean country is an important step to take for the future. "Chile is at the forefront of Latin American photovoltaic markets and SolarMax wants to contribute to its construction and expansion, applying its experience of over twenty years in the production and distribution of inverters of best Swiss quality throughout the world."
