Hanwha and Sunlight combine for Cyprus project

News

Hanwha Q CELLS and SUNLIGHT have been chosen by a telecommunications provider in Cyprus to complete a  project comprising off-grid PV systems for the provider's 15 base stations in mountainous regions of Cyprus, providing clean energy and replacing the previous diesel-powered generators. In total, the telecommunications company will not only save 142,500 liters of oil per year, but also 370,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. The Hybrid Power Systems combine renewable and conventional energy sources and integrate 31.7 kWp of Hanwha Q CELLS Q.PRO PV modules. As the winning polycrystalline module in the independent 2013 yield measurement performed by PHOTON magazine, Q.PRO will ensure the highest-possible yields for the customer. Both organizations implement this project as the first joint one after signing a strategic agreement.

"We see great potential in off-grid energy solutions worldwide with Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean as especially promising regions - mainly for telecommunications and residential applications," said Stefanos Latinos, Commercial Director for Stationary Batteries, Energy Projects & Service Solutions, SUNLIGHT.

"We are always seeking strategic partners sharing the same vision and passion with us in providing turn-key energy solutions. Hanwha Q CELLS fits our positioning and matches our product offering perfectly. Together, we are able to provide the two major components of Hybrid Power Systems: batteries, from SUNLIGHT's premium RES batteries portfolio, and solar panels, which are Hanwha Q CELLS' expertise."

The Hybrid Power Systems use solar energy to power the telecommunications provider's base stations and also integrate the premium range of SUNLIGHT OPzV solar batteries. They are a prime example of sustainable development by replacing diesel generators with more modern systems based on renewable energy power. While the off-grid PV plants using the leading Q CELLS modules will ensure the smooth and uninterrupted running of the base stations and additionally conserve resources.

"We are pleased to have reached a strategic agreement for Hanwha Q CELLS to provide our high-quality solar modules for the SUNLIGHT Hybrid Power Systems," said Justin Lee, CCO at Hanwha Q CELLS. "Photovoltaics is the right technology and given their superior quality and reliability, the Q CELLS solar modules are the product of choice to be integrated into these kinds of innovative and intelligent energy solutions."
