CIC orders next generation cell tester from Meyer Burger

News

Meyer Burger successfully commissions first new generation cell tester for high efficiency solar cells for an industrial customer in Japan

Meyer Burger's competence centre for measurement technologies, Pasan SA, has successfully installed and commissioned the first next generation SpotLIGHT cell tester for high efficiency solar cells in an industrial manufacturing environment. The Choshu Industry Corporation (CIC) has commissioned the SpotLIGHT cell tester at its Sanyo Onoda plant in Japan in order to meet the demanding performance measurement requirements of its innovative cell technologies.

CIC is a research and development driven manufacturer with a strong focus on cutting edge photovoltaic technologies such as heterojunction (HJT) and busbarless cells for the development and production of very high efficiency solar modules. The IV testing of high efficiency cells is technically demanding for the quality of the light source as well as for the reliable electrical contact to the cell. In order to meet these challenges, CIC has chosen Meyer Burger as its trusted supplier based on the outstanding performance of its innovative metrological systems. As the competence centre for measurement technologies, Pasan has successfully commissioned its SpotLIGHT HighCap cell tester combined with its GridTOUCH contacting solution for busbarless cells at CIC's Sanyo Onoda plant in Japan. They will be used to measure the next generation high efficiency busbarless technologies developed by R&D team at CIC.

The SpotLIGHT HighCap cell tester is an innovative solution designed to assess the performance of solar cells exhibiting high capacitance such as HJT. Its revolutionary hybrid light source (combining a Xenon source with LEDs) enables highest precision measurement of solar modules at lowest cost of ownership. The GridTOUCH contacting solution for busbarless cells is a unique, patent pending industrial contacting solution enabling the fully automated electrical contacting of busbarless cells for production environments. The SpotLIGHT and GridTOUCH technologies can both be integrated into fully automated cell sorting systems with high throughput allowing producers to assess the performance of their products to the highest standards.

Meyer Burger is proud to support CIC in their pioneering PV business development and their effort towards the cost reduction of PV electricity. The Japanese market is very demanding in terms of quality, performance and service and Meyer Burger is pleased to strengthen its position with this leading industrial reference customer.
