LG Solar scoops Intersolar Award 2015
LG Solar, the solar business unit of LG Electronics, has won the prestigious Intersolar award in the photovoltaics module category for its LG NeON 2 solar panel with Cello Technology. LG Solar received the award at the international trade show Intersolar 2015 in Munich where the industry's brightest come together to showcase and recognise innovation. In addition to photovoltaics modules, the jury also hands out awards in three other categories, including solar projects in Europe, electrical energy storage and solar projects in North America.
The successor to the popular MonoX NeON, the LG NeON 2, is based on high-performance Cello Technology. At 1640 x 1000 mm and 60 mono-crystalline cells, the module offers a peak output of up to 320 Watt. The innovative Cello Technology consists of 12 thin wires instead of 3 busbar that improve the output and increase the reliability of the module.
Additionally, the LG NeON 2 is more durable than its predecessor. The front panel can withstand 6.000 Pascal (Pa) of mechanical strength - an increase of 11 percent. The durability of the back panel has also been increased more than two fold to 5.400 Pa. In practical terms, this means greater peace of mind for users as the solar module can easily withstand a storm.
The reinforced design of the module comes hand-in-hand with an extended product warranty. Instead of ten years, users will now receive a total of 12 years warranty with the LG NeON 2 solar panel. The annual degradation has also been reduced by a maximum of 2 percent in the first year and not more than 0.6 percent in the following 24 years. This means that users will still receive at least 83.6% of the initial output after 25 years, as opposed to 81.2 percent from previous generations. The LG NeON 2 module now also comes in black with an output peak of 300 Watt.
"Our inaugural MonoX NeON module has been the talk of the town for its impressive output at a reduced cost ever since it won the Intersolar AWARD in 2013. The latest generation has now set the bar even higher. We are very pleased that the jury recognised our continuous innovation efforts by awarding us this prestigious prize," says Michael Harre, vice-president of the EU Solar Business Group at LG Electronics Germany.
