Gamesa to develop 23 MW of solar power capacity in India
Gamesa has received a new order in India from renewable energy developer New Era Enviro for the development of 23 MW of solar power capacity across three projects located in the state of Telangana.
This is the company's second solar power order, having established a foothold in the photovoltaic segment last July with a 10 MW project - already up and running - also in India.
Under the terms of the EPC contract signed with New Era Enviro, Gamesa will develop three solar power plants - 5 MW, 10 MW and 8 MW, on a turnkey basis in the towns of Bujarampet, Ellanthakunta and Mankondur, respectively. More specifically, the company will perform the engineering work, procure the photovoltaic inverters and commission the facilities, foreseeably in the first quarter of this year. Meanwhile, New Era Enviro will supply the solar panels and structures.
This focus on the photovoltaic sector in India fits with the strategic goal enshrined in the 2015-2017 business plan of exploring opportunities in businesses that complement the wind industry, such as solar power. India's solar potential has been sized at 750 GW. The government's goal is to lift installed capacity to 100 GW by 2022, compared to 3.8 GW today.
