Azure commissions 100 MW project in Telangana

Azure Power, an independent solar power producer, commissioned a 100 MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Telangana. The 100 MW grid-connected solar PV project is spread over an area of 500 acres.

For the supply of power generated from the project, Azure Power has entered a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at a tariff of ₹4.67 (~$0.073)/kWh for a period of 25 years.

The grid-connected solar PV project had been tendered by the NTPC under the country's National Solar Mission Phase-II, Batch-II, Tranche-I.

Inderpreet Wadhwa, the founder and chairman of Azure Power said, "Telangana's continued reliance and faith in solar energy has successfully transformed it into one of the largest solar power producing states in the country. We are delighted to make a contribution towards the realization of our prime minister's commitment towards clean and green energy through solar power generation."

According to Mercom's India Solar Project Tracker, Azure Power has installed large-scale solar capacity of ~880 MW and a solar pipeline of 550 MW, as on date. Telangana has installed solar capacity of ~3.1 GW.

In the recently-conducted 250 MW Bhadla Solar Park auction, Azure Power won the bid to develop 200 MW of grid-connected solar PV by quoting the lowest tariff of ₹2.48 (~$0.039)/kWh.

Recently, Mercom reported that the NTPC annulled a 250 MW Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category auction, which was held last year. In October 2017, Azure Power had emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder by quoting a tariff of ₹3.14 (~$0.0491)/kWh to develop the 250 MW of solar project under the DCR.
