REC Group Top Performer in PV Module Reliability Scorecard by DNV GL
REC Group, an international solar panel manufacturer with Scandinavian roots, has again been named a “Top Performer 2020” in the annual PV Module Reliability Scorecard by PV Evolution Labs (PVEL) and DNV GL. According to PVEL, they are the leading reliability and performance testing lab for downstream solar project developers, financiers, and asset owners and operators around the world. The PV Module Reliability Scorecard is the most comprehensive publicly available comparison of solar panel reliability test results available to the public.
Cemil Seber, Vice President Product Management & Global Marketing at REC Group, comments on the benchmark results: “Being a ‘Top Performer’ for the fifth year in a row is a clear testament to REC’s outstanding and consistent high quality and reliability. Innovation is in our DNA and we are constantly setting the pace when it comes to powerful solar panels and novel and here-to-stay products with a strong durability. It is one thing to design high efficiency cells or modules on a lab scale, but a totally different one to bring it to mass production.”
At end-2019, 10 GW of REC’s premium solar panels have been installed worldwide, empowering more than 16 million people by generating 13 TWh of clean energy and reducing 9 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. In 2019, REC Group manufactured around 4 million solar panels at its state-of-the-art production plant in Singapore, featuring innovative manufacturing concepts like Industry 4.0. The company demonstrates an exceptionally low warranty claims rate of far below 100 parts per million (ppm) and thereby offers a comprehensive warranty package, the REC ProTrust Warranty, exclusive to REC Certified Solar Professional installers.
In May 2019, REC Group introduced its latest revolution: the powerful REC Alpha Series solar panels, reaching 380 Wp in a 60-cell format and delivering around 20% more power compared to a conventional product[1]. Thanks to its outstanding power density of 217 watts per square meter, the REC Alpha Series enables greater power independence and electricity bill savings for households and businesses, even when space is limited.
REC Group earned the “Top Performer 2020” status for its REC TwinPeak 2 Mono solar panels, which are based on REC’s award-wining technology, in four test categories by which the scorecard measures panel reliability:
· Potential induced degradation (PID) tests, which involve measuring the loss of power output capacity caused by voltage, heat and humidity
· Thermal cycling tests, in which resilience to fluctuations in temperature is measured
· Damp heat tests, which use high temperature and high humidity to evaluate module construction
· Dynamic mechanical load tests, which simulate the load effect of snow and wind and measure the module’s resilience to degradation.
