Equans Solar & Storage - Partnership with Destia in the Finnish solar PV market

News

Equans Solar & Storage and Destia are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on accelerating the development of large-scale solar PV in Finland.

As the demand for green electricity grows in Finland, large-scale solar farms shall take a growing share in the mix in the very coming years. Destia sees untapped market potential in the construction of PV solar facilities and has therefore created a new business unit to address the emerging opportunities. With 5.5 GW already installed, Equans Solar & Storage is recognized as a leader in solar energy and intends to expand its footprint to Finland. The two companies, both from Bouygues Group*, have therefore decided to join forces to offer EPC services to energy power producers and projects developers, thus contributing to the sustainable energy transition in Finland.

The size of the solar photovoltaic (PV) energy capacity in Finland is expected to grow from 400 MW to 8,000 MW by 2030. The transition will include several large-scale solar parks of 30 MW and above with the biggest parks expected to provide more than 500 MW of electricity, which equals the consumption of approximately 90,000 households**. The growth of solar energy capacity allows Finland to address the increasing demand of green energy in manufacturing and move towards carbon neutrality.

“Finland is currently going through smart energy transition and moving towards renewable energy sources like wind and solar. There is already a strong wind energy market in Finland, so the focus of investors, developers and other players is being switched increasingly towards solar energy. By collaborating with Equans Solar & Storage, we bring international expertise to the emerging Finnish solar PV market, providing a one-stop shop for solar developers working on large-scale solar PV parks,” says Jarkko Lahti, Head of Solar Power Construction unit at Destia.

“The Finnish solar PV market provides an interesting opportunity as the large-scale projects are starting to emerge. At Equans Solar & Storage, we design and deliver turnkey utility scale solar PV farms of the highest quality all over the world and can share our extensive knowhow with Destia. We are very pleased to partner with Destia, benefiting from their strong local expertise, to bring best-in-class EPC services for solar developers in Finland, says Elisabeth Benedetto, Director of Equans Solar & Storage and Executive Vice President of Energies BU at Bouygues Energies & Services, a subsidiary of the Equans Group.

This collaboration aims to guarantee EPC services at the highest standards of performance, reliability and safety, together with a competitive approach to solar independent power producers in Finland.
