Motech Industries Gets Big Order
Indian client places large order for 120 Megawatt of solar cells to Motech Industries.
Taiwan based Motech Industries, a supplier of solar cells, received a big order from a major solar cell supplier in India, Solar Semiconductor, for 120 megawatt with a value at least NT$10 billion.
India plans to invest US$5 billion to build a vast power generation system. This might be a huge business opportunity for Motech because the plant is planned for 5,000 megawatt.
Although Motech has not focused on India operations in particular, it has however made huge efforts to expand its business since this year and gradually sees its business paying off with the order from Solar Semiconductor.
However, India has already started to build its own power generation system in Gujarat with the aid of John Byrne, a globally distinguished professor. According to local officials, they have made big technical progress in the system and successfully cut the cost of power generation to only 10 pennies per kilowatt-hour from an original estimate of 25 pennies. At the moment, an estimated 390 million people live without electricity supply in the country.
