German Order For Phoenix

News
Phoenix Solar to build solar parks for German utility

Phoenix Solar AG, a photovoltaic system integrator, is to build two solar parks for SWT Stadtwerke Trier (city utility of Trier) with a peak power totalling 7.8 megawatts. Phoenix Solar won the bid in a tendering process for the delivery and assembly of the power plants in Fell in the district of Trier-Saarburg and in Bitburg in the district of Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Phoenix Solar AG construction team will commence construction work this week in Bitburg. In the weeks ahead more than 72,000 solar modules of First Solar, the market leader for thin-film modules, will be installed. The solar park's peak power comes to more than 5.6 megawatts. More than 28,000 First Solar modules, generating a peak power of around 2.2 megawatts, are to be assembled in Fell. The tasks of Phoenix Solar also include the delivery and installation of data monitoring as well as setting up the data link to SWT's control system. Phoenix Solar will hand over the solar power plants in a turnkey state in June to SWT which will then connect them to the grid. Both solar power plants together produce around 8.2 million kilowatt hours of solar electricity a year which is sufficient to supply 2,300 households in the Trier region.

As in the past when solar parks were built in the region of Trier, Bürgerservice Trier will carry out the excavation work for the Fell project. This will bring the number of solar parks on which Phoenix Solar and Bürgerservice Trier have cooperated to eleven in total.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity of proving our long-standing experience and our know-how in planning and building large-scale solar power plants to energy supplier SWT. The project with Stadtwerke Trier shows that solar energy is playing an increasingly important role in the renewable energies mix", said Dr. Andreas Hänel, Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Solar AG.

"Through these two new large-scale photovoltaic plants, SWT Stadtwerke Trier will continue to expand the decentralised production of energy in the Trier region. All in all, we will then be operating nine power plants generating local green electricity. By investing almost EUR 60 million over the last three years we have been able to treble the share of renewable energy production in the region", stated Dr. Olaf Hornfeck, SWT's Managing Director.
