The largest Photovoltaic (PV) solar panel system in the UK has been installed by renewable energy specialist RenEnergy on a grain store in Cambridgeshire. In a joint venture with renewable energy service company Esco Nrg, installation of the 745 square metre 100Kw array was completed within six weeks and is the largest commissioned project of its kind.
RenEnergy's managing director Damian Baker said: "OfGem have confirmed that this is the largest operating installation of its kind in the UK and is a great example of the use of solar PV to produce cost savings on a commercial as well as residential scale. The benefits to the environment are well documented and second-to-none."
Established in 2003, Norfolk-based RenEnergy offers a holistic range of services to meet the increasing demands for renewable energy solutions. These include accredited training courses, consultancy and the design, supply and installation of bespoke systems - making it one of the few full-service renewable energy providers in the UK.
The installation has taken place at Bartlow Estates in Cambridge. Owner Tim Breitmeyer, said: "Bartlow had significant energy consumption in the grain store. With the introduction of the new feed-in tariffs, it seemed a good idea to research whether any renewable energy technologies were appropriate to help reduce this consumption. We have a 1,000 square metre south facing roof on the store so solar energy seemed the obvious choice. The new PV system will provide us with cheaper consumption, at around 50 per cent of the cost of our current day rate, as well as providing a healthy return on investment."
RenEnergy provides a range of renewable technologies including ground and air source heat pumps, biomass heating systems, rainwater harvesting, wind turbines, under floor heating as well as solar PV. The company operates throughout the south east and has a subsidiary office in Hampshire. Its clients include North Norfolk District Council, Broadland District Council and LSI Architecture.
