Solarday Joins Recycle Effort
Solarday joins PV Cycle, the European association for voluntary take back and recycling of photovoltaic modules
Solarday Spa has joined the PV Cycle Association, which involves PV modules manufacturer involved in the voluntary take back and recycling program for end-of-life-modules.
"The take back and recycling of PV- modules - said Mark Gehring, CEO of Solarday - is one of the topics that a company, which cares about the environment and its protection, must consider and we want to follow and to contribute to this evolution starting from the beginning. Solarday is ISO9001-2008 and OHSAS 18001 certified and the partnership with PV Cycle is an ambitious and awareness project to involve our industry on this item.
In 2010 an estimated 35,000 tons of solar panels will be taken back and the voluntary commitment of the PV-companies in introducing this topic is certainly an important step towards environment sustainability.
A PV-module is, itself, already sustainable because it mainly consists of silicon material, like the one used for electronic circuits. The commitment made by PV-manufacturers, wholesalers and importers in Europe, members of the PV Cycle ensures that, once the panels will reach their natural end of life they will be recollected and recycled minimizing waste".
"Making the PV industry Doubly Green" is the commitment of PV Cycle that, thanks to
contribution of its members, is committed to collect at least 65% of photovoltaic modules installed in Europe since 1990, and 85% recycled materials. The commitment made in December 2008 was supported by French EU Presidency and the European Commissioner for Environment Mr. Stavros Dimas.
