AFASE encourages industry: have a say in Europe
AFASE has released an announcement encouraging people to sign a petition in the hope of influencing the EC decision on product dumping against Chinese manufactures.
With 18 (of 27) EU governments opposing solar import duties (and only 4 supporting them), AFASE feels they are winning the argument that solar import duties are bad for the EU. The one obstacle that still stands in the way according to AFASE is the EU Commissioner Karel De Gucht backed by his fellow Commissioners. Before 5 June they will decide if the EU should impose solar import duties.
According to AFASE, EU Commissioner Karel De Gucht is ignoring EU country opposition. He dismisses opposition to the duties he proposed as the result of those countries being pressured by China. EU countries signalled that the EU Commission's analysis does not justify the imposition of solar import duties. Moreover, the EU Member States expressed through the concern of the hundreds of EU businesses and citizens that claimed that duties would damage them severely.
The AFASE group feels there is a need to show the EU Commissioner Karel De Gucht that the pressure is real, from real EU solar businesses and also from real EU citizens. They state this isn't just a trade issue, it is a climate change and clean energy issue and should be recognised as such."¨"¨
