China adds punitive duties to US and South Korean polysilicon supplies
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has announced it has decided to apply punitive import duties to polysilicon supplies originating from the USA and South Korea following the completion of an investigation accusing the two regions of dumping the raw material required for solar and semiconductor manufacturing at below cost and in detriment to the local suppliers.
The duties are to begin at the end of July and will range between 2.4% and 57% with US suppliers to be hit the hardest. Three large suppliers from the US will all be hit with tariffs above 50%. The Koreans fared a little better but the highest levy will still be around 48%.
There is still an on going investigation into European imports but this decision suggests the outcome will be similar.
Companies hit by the added duty have 10 days to lodge complaints to have the decisions reviewed.
