SolarMax See success in Chile
The Swiss inverter manufacturer Sputnik Engineering (SolarMax) is expanding its local operations in Chile with the realisation of several photovoltaic projects.
The South-American country has been one of the more recent and ambitious emerging PV markets.
SolarMax has finished a hybrid system which allows a switch to batteries or a diesel generator in the cases of high energy use or low solar irradiation. The 3kW project was realised by the Chilean engineering firm Nahuenco and is located in Curacavi, which belongs to the metropolitan area of Santiago de Chile.
Currently SolarMax is realising a solar irrigation system together with the EPC company iEnergía. A PV plant with a capacity of 410 kW will primarily deliver the power for the use of electric drive pumps for irrigation of agricultural fields and additionally feeds the current into the grid. The system is equipped with 1,440 solar modules as well as with 24 SolarMax 15MT2 inverters.
Until the end of the first quarter of 2014 SolarMax expects the realisation of projects with a total capacity of nearly one MW. At the beginning of 2014 Chile accounts for an installed PV capacity of 6.7 MW in total.
