SunEdison CEO joins President Obama and Prime Minister Modi at climate talks

SunEdison, Inc., has announced that Ahmad Chatila, Chief Executive Officer of SunEdison joined President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India in New Delhi, India, to discuss the ways that renewable energy can drive US-India trade, provide American jobs, and curb India's greenhouse gas emissions.

"It's a great honor to be invited to meet with President Obama and Prime Minister Modi to discuss how renewable energy can benefit the people of both India and America," stated Ahmad Chatila, Chief Executive Officer of SunEdison. "We have recently signed agreements to develop 10 gigawatts of solar energy in India within the next 5 years. Solar is now a cost effective source of energy in India, and as it's supported by the Indian government's strong leadership in energy policy, I anticipate even more rapid growth in the future."

In September 2014, Prime Minister Modi announced that he is seeking to work with the United States to develop 100 gigawatts of solar and wind energy over the next ten years. India has supported this goal by setting aggressive cost and implementation goals and providing regulatory certainty for industry participants, as well as by working to secure land for utility scale projects throughout India. In August 2014, India's energy administration removed all anti-dumping duties on solar panels and pledged to do everything in its power to create a robust ecosystem for renewables in India.

Mr. Chatila added: "By expanding our renewable energy development in countries like India, we are providing jobs back in America. SunEdison runs R&D, engineering, and manufacturing facilities in the US, and all of these functions feed our global projects."
