Suntech to Upgrade Panel Production

Suntech has announced that the company will upgrade all of its solar panel production to its four busbar modules. The modules will replace the photovoltaic producer's three busbar module. The four busbar monocrystalline module recently attained the VDE QT (Quality Tested) certification, and the four busbar polycrystalline module will attain the VDE QT (Quality Tested) certification in June.

The improvement from a three busbar module to a four busbar module, which began in December 2014, will allow for a higher output of power by decreasing current loss by approximately 10% and power dissipation. The four busbar module design provides less residual stress on the busbars, reducing the probability of micro-cracks and hotspots, making the modules less susceptible to malfunctions that lead to significant power degradation.

"We are proud to begin providing enhanced modules to our customers around the world," said Xiong Haibo, president of Suntech. "Not only is the four busbar module more durable than its predecessor, the module also generates more power.  Our upgraded panel sustains higher power output at 200W/m2 compared to conventional modules in weak lighting conditions."

The four busbar module, which generates at least 1 power class, 5W more power than its predecessor, the three busbar module, is by far a superior module, offering increased efficiency, power generation, and output.  At peak performance, the monocrystalline modules can produce 275W and 325W for 60 cells and 72 cells respectively and the polycrystalline modules can produce up to 265W and 315W for 60 cells and 72 cells respectively. In the coming months, all of Suntech's three busbar modules will be replaced by cost-competitive four busbar modules in all its markets worldwide.

Suntech was recently named on Bloomberg New Energy Finance's (BNEF) February 2015 Global PV Market Outlook list as a tier 1 solar company, based on its bankability. The BNEF list ranks a tier 1 company according to those PV companies who have manufactured their own modules and provided these products to five different projects that have been financed non-recourse by five different non-development banks, in the past two years.
