Gujarat to extend solar knowledge to Haryana
In a first of its kind tie up in the field of renewable energy, Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute (GERMI) signed an MOU with Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) to provide advisory services and extend its knowledge to various government agencies of Haryana.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri M. K. V. Rama Rao, Managing Director, HPGCL, Shri J. P. Agrawal, Director-Technical, Dr. T. Harinarayana, Director, GERMI, Dr. Omkar Jani, Principal Research Scientist, GERMI and the like.
GERMI will be providing its services with the approach of "Concept to Commissioning" for developing solar projects in Haryana. GERMI and HPGCL will work together to identify sites, check project feasibilities, provide complete project management support as well as capacity building within HPGCL through trainings.
"We are not looking at this relationship as just a service to be provided", says Dr. Omkar Jani, Principal Research Scientist (Solar), GERMI; ""¦but we see this as a landmark initiative of knowledge transfer between two states to achieve a common goal towards sustainability."
GERMI is a non-profit Trust and Society, a centre for excellence in industry learning and a recognized Scientific and Industrial Research Organization recognized by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India and is set up to develop human resource assets to cater to the renewable as well as non-renewable energy sectors; improve knowledge base of policy makers and technologists and provide a competitive edge to leaders to compete in the global arena.HPGCL performs the function of generation in the State of Haryana. The total installed generation capacity of HPGCL is 3,230.2 MW. Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has mandated the Distribution Companies (Discoms) of Haryana a Solar Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) of 0.25 percent of the total consumption of FY 2014-15 which is gradually increasing up to 3% in FY 2021-22. To meet this RPO, the State of Haryana has set a target for installation of solar power capacities of 400 MW in the next four years, on ground, rooftops, canal-tops, on ash dykes, solar parks or ultra-mega solar power projects.
