Sonnedix achieve commercial operation of 40MW Soma PV plant

News

Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix Group of companies (Sonnedix Group), achieved commercial operation of the 40MW Sonnedix Soma solar photovoltaic plant on February 23rd, 2022.

The plant is the ninth large-scale solar PV project fully managed through the development, financing, and construction phase by Sonnedix Japan for the Sonnedix Group, and brings the operating capacity of the Sonnedix Group’s Japanese portfolio to 400MW. The Sonnedix Soma PV plant is the third project in Japan to achieve commercial operation in 2022.

Located in the city of Soma, Fukushima prefecture, the plant is expected to produce 48,700MWh of clean energy during its first full year of operation. This is the equivalent of powering more than 11,200 households, avoiding the emission of more than 23,700 metric tons of CO2 per year. The electricity generated by the solar plant will be sold through an 18.5-year plus Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

“Reaching 400MW operational capacity is a noteworthy milestone in our Japan growth strategy and is one that we plan to surpass very soon,” said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix. “Sonnedix is committed to the Japanese market; we are actively seeking opportunities to expand our global footprint and push forward the energy transition.”

Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix group of companies (the Sonnedix Group), currently manages a total capacity including projects under construction and development of approximately 500MW.

Sonnedix Soma represents the third EPC collaboration with Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd., with the plant-powered by 400Wp Hanwha monocrystalline modules and TMEIC 2.5MW inverters. Daiwa House will also perform operations and maintenance services for the solar PV plant.
