Israel’s Largest Solar Power Project
The Israeli media reports that the country’s largest private solar power project gets underway.
According to these reports the Public Utilities Authority (Electricity) has approved the application of Arava Power Company for a license to build a 5 megawatt photovoltaic power farm at an 20-acre site at Kibbutz Ketura (which owns 40% of Avara Power) in the Negev. It is estimated that the project will cost NIS 100 million.
The Minister of National Infrastructures, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, received a conditional license for Arava Power which has been approved by the Public Utilities Authority.
The photovoltaic farm will be linked to the electricity grid is the first project of this kind in Israel. A co-operation agreement with 15 Kibbutzim has been signed to ensure sufficient land available to produce 500 megawatt of electricity. It is expected that over 20 Kibbutzim will join this scheme this year.
Negotiations are held by Avara Power and US based AES Corporation to become financial and strategic partners in the project.
