Solyndra Roll Out In Slovenia

News
Solyndra presents its first 46 kWp in Slovenia
Solyndra, a manufacturer of cylindrical photovoltaic (PV) systems for large commercial rooftops, announced that Eco Solar, a fast growing Slovenian PV developer has completed a 46 kWp grid connected solar system.  The investor - Intercom - is a leading provider of hydraulic cylinders and aggregates for the industry. The rooftop installation on the company's headquarters in Celje was connected to the grid at the end of November.

"Our goal with this project was to demonstrate our commitment to conducting business in an eco-friendly manner, but of course it had to be economically advocable," said Jernej Volavšek, CEO of Intercom. "Eco Solar specified the Solyndra panels with a new "cool roof", allowing us to generate the most energy possible from our roof while reducing our overall energy use. The system is up and running and we expect a good return on investment."

The Intercom installation consists of  252 Solyndra solar panels, producing over 46,000 kWh of electricity and eliminating more than 60,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually - enough energy to remove 5 cars from the road or power more than 8 residential homes per year according to United States Environmental Protection Agency calculations. Eco Solar designed, engineered and installed the system in combination with a new white 'cool roof' system.

"It's not surprising how quickly people got excited by this technology. Not just because of its simple and quick implementation, but also because of minimazing risks in the long run. This is an ideal solution for the owners of buildings with flat roofs, who  are not willing to risk leaks of roof penetration and static issues connected with installation of classic mono/polycristalline modules. We need to provide the businesses added value minimazing the risk",  said Jurij Šav, partner of Eco Solar. "Working closely with Solyndra/USE we were able to deliver the lowest balance of system costs and best return on investment for our customer - surely Solyndra has a great potential to become a strong leader on the Slovenian photovoltaic market."

"We were pleased to support this first project in Slovenia which demonstrated both the ease of installation of the Solyndra system and our ability to enhance a white roof," said Clemens Jargon, Solyndra's president of EMEA and managing director, Solyndra GmbH. "Slovenia has a favorable environment for solar and our distributed, rooftop solution is a perfect answer to the country's desire to increase its renewable energy production."
