Malta cancels solar subsidy plan
Government officials on the island of Malta have confirmed that previously announced subsidies for businesses to develop solar energy has been scrapped.
Malta Enterprise has decided to cancel the Solar Energy Grant Scheme 2013 due to technical problems encountered in the process of pre-selection of suppliers.
According to the official announcement the decision was reached after consultations with the Managing Authority of the European Regional Development Fund, the findings of the Appeals Committee and a thorough consideration of the various options available.
It appears the advice was that the uptake would exceed the finances set aside for the project. The money will now be absorbed into other government projects. Details of which were not forthcoming.
