Hashemite University calls for PV tenders
The Hashemite University (HU) in Zarqa, Jordan has launched a tender for the design and construction of 5 MW photovoltaic (PV) stations to cover 100% of its energy needs. The tender calls for a coalition of local and international companies with a reputable record in implementing PV mega projects. This project, which is considered the largest of its kind in the Kingdom, comes as part of HU larger strategy of adopting Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE & EE) as one of its strategic objectives. The project is expected to eliminate the soaring electric bill of the university, which currently exceeds JD 1 million annually, reduce the carbon footprint of the university, and to make HU a world-class pioneering campus for excellence in teaching, research and state of the art energy applications in the region.
The project consists of low- and medium-voltage solar power stations, some of it used as of solar canopies distributed around campus, to provide shade for pedestrians, students, and cars, making HU an iconic, environmentally-friendly, and an attractive place for work and study. In addition, the station will provide a unique opportunity for extensive and high level research, hands-on training and capacity building, and semi-arid region renewable energy applications.
The tendering documents have been completely developed by the College of Engineering at HU, including the technical specifications and feasibility study, as it is being recognized as one of the most prominent and distinguished houses of expertise in the region.
The last date to purchase a copy of the tender documents is Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013. More information regarding the tender can be found on:
